CHARACTER AND A MOVEMENT STUDY WITH BUBA

Do you want to create characters who are much more than the words they say? Come explore non-traditional ways to create and explore! In the style of Lecoq, we will go beyond text to discover complex, funny, living, breathing characters.  Guided by international artist Buba Basishvili, this workshop includes a physical warm-up, theatre games, and ensemble work. Students will work together and share their creations in class.

This workshop is ideal for those with some experience in theatre, dance, or movement.

SLOW TEMPO: ENERGY OF THE MOMENT WITH NICOLE

Do you need a space to slow down? To breathe? To live in the moment?

Join us for a workshop in Slow Tempo, a silent narrative performance style developed by Japanese theatre director Shogo Ohta.  As performance training, Slow Tempo cultivates the mind-body connection, physical balance, specificity of thought, clarity of intention, and moment-to-moment awareness.

This workshop is open to artists of all skill and fitness levels. Writers, visual artists, and other contemplatives are welcome too!

Mask with Buba

In this Neutral Mask and Commedia dell’arte workshop led by Buba Basishvili, participants will investigate the basics of acting using neutral mask as a guide. We will explore the neutral state of 'being' in time and space. We will explore the relationship between space, rhythm and force. We will investigate 'The spark' that brings a performer from neutrality into action, as well as explore the dynamics of movement, balance, opposition, action, reaction, alternation, compensation, and breath. Starting from physical warm-up, we will then identify, through the mask, personal habits that we carry into our acting roles. We will then move into an exploration of "the character mask".

This workshop is open to artists of all skill and fitness levels. Writers, visual artists, and other contemplatives are welcome too!
